We are filming a self-funded, micro-budget feature film where we live in Salida, as well as Poncha Springs and Howard around that same area. It’s a comedy called BOONDOGGLES about a cynical journalist investigating the disappearance of his unhinged older brother in a small town filled with bizarre characters and absurd conspiracies.
CASTING
We’re looking for two female supporting actors and two male supporting actors. Character descriptions below:
SUSAN
Late 20s–30s
Susan is the strong-willed and passionate manager for a cult called the “Sight Sinuvians”, a prehistoric world religion that she’s using as a front to profit from a secret operation (organ harvesting!). She puts on a fake welcoming demeanor to bring people into her scheme, but when push comes to shove, she doesn’t mess around.
CAROLINE
Late 40s–50s
Caroline is a lawyer. She’s open, and interested in spirituality (she loves a good retreat). She’s dating a younger man in his 30s (Ben, the lead character) and she can’t help but worry that Ben might not be able to be a good step-father to her adult man-child son, Jimmy, whom she cherishes.
GEORGE
30s–50s
George is a lovable wizard who runs a cowboy bar in the middle of the Colorado mountains. He’s a member of the “American Association of Crimson Wizards for Good,” an organization he takes very, very seriously. He has a kind heart, and wants to do good, but he doesn’t suffer fools, especially when they question his deeply-held beliefs.
JOHN SAMUEL
40s–60s
John Samuel is the leader of the Sight Sinuvians, a prehistoric world religion that operates as a small cult in the middle of the Colorado mountains. Despite being the figure-head for a group with nefarious secrets, John Samuel is none the wiser. When we meet John Samuel, we discover he might actually know less than anyone else in the story.
We have 12 days of principal photography from September 29 through October 14, but each role requires different shoot days within that timeline. George films on Tuesday, September 29, and Sat+Sun October 11+12. John Samuel films on Saturday Oct 11 and Sunday Oct 12. Susan films four consecutive days from Thursday, Oct 8 through Sunday Oct 11. And Caroline films one day on Wednesday, September 30.
